Festival Season Jewellery Shopping Checklist
The Innocence team · 4 October 2026 · 3 min read

The weeks from Navratri to Diwali are the busiest for jewellers. This checklist keeps your shopping calm, within budget and properly checked.
From Navratri through Dhanteras and Diwali, many families buy jewellery for gifts, for festivals and for weddings that follow. Showrooms are busy and offers are everywhere. A simple checklist helps you stay in control.
Before you shop
- List who and what. Write the names of those you are buying for, and what you plan to buy.
- Set a total budget, including tax and making charges.
- Decide your priorities. If you cannot afford everything, which pieces matter most?
- Note sizes. Rings, bangles and bracelets need an exact size. See how to measure your ring size at home and how to measure bangle size.
- Check the dates. Festival dates and muhurats come from the panchang. Ask your family which dates matter to you.
Plan your timing
- Visit early. The weeks before Dhanteras are the busiest.
- Order custom or engraved pieces well ahead.
- Choose a quieter time of day, if you can.
- Ask about booking a piece in advance.

At the showroom
- Look for the BIS hallmark and HUID on every gold piece. See what a HUID is and how to verify it.
- Ask for a price breakup. See how jewellery price is calculated step by step.
- Compare more than one quote on the same weight and design.
- For diamonds, ask for the certificate and grades. See questions to ask your jeweller before buying diamonds.
- Examine the piece for finish, clasps and settings.
Understand offers
Festival offers can include discounts on making charges, free gifts or schemes. Ask what each offer applies to, and how it affects the price you pay and any later exchange. Compare the final price with and without the offer. See gold making charges explained.
At billing
- Read the invoice. See how to read a jewellery invoice line by line.
- Confirm exchange and return terms in writing.
- Keep the receipt for every payment.
- Ask about service and warranty.
After you buy
- Keep everything together: invoice, certificate, box. See what to keep with your jewellery.
- Store pieces safely until you give them. See how to store diamond and gold jewellery.
- Carry purchases carefully in crowds.
Avoid these traps
- Buying more than planned because of an offer.
- Skipping the hallmark check in a hurry.
- Paying in cash without a proper receipt.
- Leaving size and fit to chance.
Common questions
Is it cheaper to buy during festivals? Offers may help, but compare the full price. Prices follow the gold rate and design, not the season.
Should I wait until Dhanteras? If it matters to you, plan to visit earlier and complete the purchase on the day.
How do I avoid the rush? Visit on a weekday or early, and book an appointment.
