Haldi, Mehendi and Sangeet Jewellery Ideas
The Innocence team · 4 October 2026 · 3 min read

The functions around a wedding call for jewellery that is pretty, light and practical. Here are ideas for haldi, mehendi and sangeet, and what to avoid.
The wedding itself gets most of the attention, but the haldi, mehendi and sangeet are full of photographs and celebration too. Each has its own demands on jewellery.
Haldi
Haldi involves turmeric paste, which stains. Fine jewellery and turmeric are not the best partners.
- Wear little or none of your valuable pieces. Many brides wear floral jewellery or simple, inexpensive pieces for haldi.
- If you wear fine jewellery, choose small, easy-to-clean pieces and rinse them gently afterwards.
- Avoid pieces with many crevices, where turmeric collects.
Mehendi
For mehendi, your hands will be decorated and unable to handle things for hours.
- Skip rings and bangles on your hands, or put them on after the henna dries and is cleaned.
- Earrings and a delicate pendant are fine and frame the face.
- Choose pieces that need no help to put on, so you do not need to touch them while the henna dries.
Sangeet
The sangeet is about dancing, so comfort and security matter.
- Choose secure clasps and earring backs. Pieces will move.
- Prefer lighter weights. Heavy necklaces and earrings tire the wearer.
- Pick pieces that will not catch on fabric. Embroidered outfits can snag fine chains.
- Add sparkle with diamonds. Studs, a pendant and a bracelet catch the lights without bulk. See diamond studs buying guide.
Floral and fresh options
Fresh flower jewellery is a pretty and traditional alternative for haldi and mehendi. It leaves your fine jewellery for the other events.
Mixing fine and fashion pieces
Many brides wear fashion jewellery for messy events and keep fine jewellery for the wedding and reception. That is practical and sensible.
Keeping jewellery safe
- Assign a trusted person to hold the jewellery you are not wearing.
- Use a small case with compartments for each piece.
- Count items before and after each event.
- Avoid leaving jewellery loose in a room that many people enter.
After the event
Clean and check each piece after the functions. See how to clean diamond jewellery at home and how to clean gold jewellery at home.
Matching the outfits
Haldi outfits are often yellow or pastel, mehendi outfits green and sangeet outfits bright or glittery. Light, white-metal diamonds work with most. See jewellery with saree, kurta and western wear.
Common questions
Can I wear my engagement ring to mehendi? Many people remove it and put it on after the henna is done, because henna paste can get under a ring.
Will turmeric damage gold or diamonds? It can stain and leave a film. A gentle clean removes it. See the advice above.
What is a good piece to buy just for these events? A pair of studs or a fine pendant that you will keep wearing afterwards.
An easy rule
If you would be upset to see it stained, scratched or lost, do not wear it to haldi or mehendi. Keep your best pieces for the wedding and reception, and enjoy the early functions in pieces that are lovely but not irreplaceable.
