Wedding Season Jewellery Shopping Timeline
The Innocence team · 4 October 2026 · 3 min read

Wedding jewellery takes longer than people expect, especially at busy times. Here is a timeline from first ideas to the final fitting, and what to do at each stage.
The weeks before a wedding fill up quickly. Jewellery is one area where starting early makes a real difference, particularly for made-to-order pieces and during busy seasons.
Why timing matters
Wedding dates in India tend to cluster in certain periods of the year, based on auspicious dates (muhurat) from the panchang. Published calendars for 2026 list a good number of dates in late November and December, for example. When many weddings fall close together, jewellers are busy, and custom work can take longer. Check the dates for your own family, which may follow a different calendar.
Four to six months before
- Set a total and a plan. See wedding jewellery budget planning in India.
- List the pieces you need, for the bride, groom and families.
- Decide whether you will reuse or redesign family jewellery. See redesigning old family jewellery into modern pieces.
- Start looking at designs, and note the ones you like.
Three to four months before
- Visit jewellers and compare quotes. See questions to ask your jeweller before buying diamonds.
- Place orders for custom or made-to-order pieces. See how custom jewellery design works.
- Order the rings. Resizing and engraving take time.
Two months before
- Buy ready-made pieces, once you have your outfits chosen.
- Match jewellery to outfits. Bring photographs or fabric. See jewellery for a red lehenga or saree.
- Confirm delivery dates in writing.
One month before
- Collect and inspect pieces. Check hallmarks, stone details and finish. See what a HUID is and how to verify it.
- Try everything together with the outfit.
- Arrange resizing or adjustments.
- Organise insurance and storage. See jewellery insurance in India.
Two weeks before
- Make a list of every piece and who will wear it.
- Pack the jewellery in labelled pouches.
- Choose a person to be responsible for it on the day.
The week of the wedding
- Keep the jewellery in a secure place.
- Give yourself time to dress and try each piece.
- Avoid last-minute purchases unless they are small.
After the wedding
- Check and clean the jewellery. See how to clean diamond jewellery at home.
- Store it safely. See how to store diamond and gold jewellery.
- Keep invoices and certificates together. See what to keep with your jewellery.
Common questions
Is three months enough? For ready-made pieces, yes. For custom or large orders, four to six months is safer.
What if the date changes? Tell your jeweller immediately, and ask how it affects pieces in progress.
What if I am short of time? Ready-made pieces can usually be adjusted quickly. Ask about what is available.
If you are shopping late
You can still buy well in a short time. Choose ready-made pieces, ask what can be resized or adjusted quickly and avoid custom work unless the jeweller confirms the date in writing. Decide the two or three pieces that matter most, buy those first and add the rest as time allows.
